As a Christian, I love this time of year, not because of the Christmas trees, and the presents, but because it reminds me that God loved me so much, that he sacrificed his son Jesus for me, even knowing how imperfect I would be. It bothers me greatly that Christmas is being attacked by secular progressives and atheists who want to eliminate any signs of God or Christianity from public view. No longer do our kids have "Christmas" break - it is Holiday Break. No longer do they have Easter Break, it is Spring Break. Businesses sell Holiday Trees and wish you Happy Holidays - don't want to offend anyone. Here is my take, over 80% of Americans claim to be Christians. So offending 80% of Americans to not offend less than 20% doesn't make a lot of sense. When I wish you Merry Christmas, I am not demanding that you be a Christian or that you believe in Jesus Christ, I am sincerely wishing you joy of the season. If you are a Jew and you wish me Happy Hanukkah, I will be flattered that you wish me joy of the season too. Those of you who don't believe in God pursue your right to not believe with a fervor nearly like religion. In fact, I believe atheism is a religion. You like to sit high up on that pedestal you have built for yourself and look down on those of us who believe in a supreme being. You assume that you are in a state of higher enlightenment then those of us imbeciles who still believe in archaic texts such as the Bible and the Torah, that you must force us to quit practicing our religion in public. Let me remind you that it was religious men who wrote that "we are endowed by our Creator" and that their belief in God is the foundation for our rights in the Bill of Rights. That most of our moral laws - don't steal, don't murder... are based on the Biblical principles called the ten commandments. Biblical principles have never injured a populace, despite your claims that most wars were started in the name of religion. Most wars, and most tyrannical governments are formed by a man or men who believe that they more enlightened then the masses. That they must control dissent and force their beliefs on everyone else. Christians want the right to practice their religion, to talk about their religion, to see businesses and government recognize the importance of their religion, not only to them but to the history of the United States. They do not seek to destroy people who do not believe the same as they do. Whether you like it or not, our country was founded on Judeo-Christian beliefs. It is part of our history and part of our national identity and national heritage. Go ahead and wish me "Happy Holidays" but don't be surprised when I answer back, "Merry Christmas".
